Before I ever knew about YEF, I didn't have much time to learn about the bible. I was a Christian and went to a Catholic school and Baptist church when I was in high school, but when I went to college I went to church less and didn't have any time to fit in religious classes or go to my church's bible study. And I wasn't really aware or focused on finding bible studies in my college. I didn't realize it at the time but I wasn't growing in my relationship with God.

Think about the statement made by James, the half-brother of Jesus: "For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." Did you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness? James is saying that his readers had been taught the concept of growth through difficulty. But did they really grasp it-and do we?

It's very easy when thinking about God's plan for our lives to have the attitude: "it's all about me." Yes, it's true that God cares about every intricate detail in our lives. In fact, Jesus said that even the hairs on our heads are numbered. We can also mistakenly think that God's plan is always going to be a "feel good" plan with the intent to make us happy. Jeremiah's message in these verses is actually radically different.
